Long-range . . . range

High power or small bore your areas of interest?

Long-range . . . range

Postby Chut1st » Mon Oct 10, 2005 5:45 pm

Is there a long-range shooting range in middle or west TN that is open to the public? At least 300 yards and preferably much longer. I'm tired of just making tiny little groups at 100 yards with my model 700 heavy barrel in .308 Win and M1A and would like to see how they (and, more importantly, I) shoot at longer ranges. It would also be nice to have a place to shoot when I finally get my dream .50 BMG rifle.

Since I do most of my shooting (pistol and shotgun) at my farm, I really don't want to join a high dollar private club just to indulge in a few days' a year shooting long range.

Ranges

You can start with the link below. It does not list all the ranges, but probably the majority of them:

http://www.nrahq.org/shootingrange/find ... p?State=TN

You can also do a search in google for shooting ranges in tennessee and it will list several sites that maintain a list of ranges.

Hope this helps.

Gallatin Gun Club has 300 yards.

Davidson County Sportsman's club has 200 yards.

Thanks, Ryan and John. I googled "Tennessee rifle range" and was surprised at the number of hits there were.

Rifle Range

I would check out several different sites, I have yet to find one that is anywhere near complete. The NRA doesn't list Oak Ridge in East TN even though it is a NRA affiliated range and even hosts NRA approved matches.

In West TN there is the Tennessee Sports Foundation http://www.tnsportsfoundation.org who has their range just South of Jackson. It says they have a 500 yard range now. Membership required.

The only other range over 200-300 yards anywhere near I know of is the range on the base at AEDC in Tullahoma, I know it goes to at least 1000 yards. I believe you have to be a member of the local gun club to gain access, although I'm not sure what the current status of that is or who to contact. I'd like to know that myself as I have some .50 I'd like to send down range.

I found out that they don't allow .50 BMG at AEDC since there's no berm. You can only shoot up to .338.

Someone was supposed to email me about applying for membership to be able to shoot down there but it doesn't look like I'm going to hear back from them.

I think the Jackson range allows 50 caliber, but will find out.

Someone mentioned that there is a nice range near Park City, KY I believe with rifle ranges up to 1500 yards.

I've looked for this online, but I haven't found anything. Does anyone know where I can find some info. on that?
