I will be curious to see who set this committee up and where the meeting notice was published - if any....

The House cutoff is not until next Thursday and I know of at least 29 bills to be signed on Monday. Why would they do something so foolish as to "study" when the bills aren't even in yet?
Pre-emptive strike? An attempt to "get in front" of the legislation, and shepherd a picked (and lousy) bill, perhaps?

Bill Summary

This bill makes it a Class A misdemeanor criminal offense for any licensed firearms dealer to transfer, deliver, sell, or offer for transfer, delivery, or sale in Tennessee any new firearm or any firearm ammunition knowing that the firearm or ammunition was microstamped. For purposes of this bill, "microstamped" means the technology by which a laser or other device is used to engrave the internal mechanisms of a firearm for ballistic imprinting, or the casing of a cartridge, so that when the firearm is fired, information identifying the firearm or the purchaser of the ammunition can be matched to a specific firearm or purchaser.

This bill does not prohibit the owner of a firearm or ammunition lawfully acquired from having the firearm or ammunition microstamped.

It was introduced by Senator Jackson with good intentions. He is aware that another state has passed a law to prohibit sales unless the weapon or ammunition is microstamped. This, if it passes, will create a prohibition of such silliness in TN.

The only problem I see, is what if such Federal sillyness is passed. Then we have just outlawed firearms in Tennessee.
